A member of the IONA iPortal Suite, the iPortal Application Server is a J2EE-compliant application server that is built on IONA's Adaptive Runtime Technology™ and the Portable Object Adapter to provide an extremely scalable Container. The Container has a deployment interface that allows hot deployment and hot reconfiguration of running applications for true 24x7 operation. The iPortal Application Server has a unique architecture whereby both the EJB and Web Containers can be fully distributed, thus avoiding bottlenecks and making full use of multiple hosts. The customer's investment is protected with strict adherence to standards, and full interoperability with CORBA applications on Unix and the mainframe.

The iPortal Application Server has been integrated with TogetherSoft's Together Control Center to allow users to model their J2EE applications in UML, generate the support code for the applications. The plug-in allows users to automatically package the applications, deploy them into the iPortal Application Server Container, and perform distributed debugging from client to server.
